The focus of the work at FAU is the development of a real-time network model of the exhibition center and
coupling the model with the digital twin. The equipment controls are to be integrated into the simulation
model using hardware-in-the-loop and/or software-in-the-loop. Finally, the implementation of the dynamic
stability assessment and the evaluation with regard to power quality and power system stability takes place.
The following work steps are essentially provided for this:
1. Development of plant and network models for real-time simulation
2. Further development of the simulation environment for the digital twin
3. Development of a sublayer of the digital twin for the physical simulation
4. Implementation of a dynamic stability assessment
5. Evaluation and derivation of recommendations
In the REMBup project, a reliable, CO2‐neutral energy supply for a trade fair operation at the Nürnberg
Messe location is to be implemented and tested within the framework of a "Reallabor". The associated
challenges in the area of sector coupling and grid utility are met by innovations in the area of predictive
energy management, energy storage, simulation and digitization.
Close cooperation between industry and research is intended to create a sustainable and secure energy
system consisting of established technology such as photovoltaics or battery storage but also innovative
approaches such as hydrogen or LOHC. The core of this holistic hybrid power plant is a digital twin of all
components, which is intended to guarantee predictive and optimized control.
Through constant evaluation and monitoring and the transferability to similar areas of application, new
business areas are to be opened up and economic added value guaranteed.
The Freidrich-Alexander University (FAU) focuses its research on power quality and power system stability.
For this purpose, a dynamic stability assessment is to be implemented on a digital twin, taking into account
the equipment controls.
