Scientific Abstract

The energy transition is essential to achieve the climate policy goals of the German Federal Government
and affects all areas of the electrical energy system.
Different progress in grid extension and the corresponding development of renewable energy sources
(RES) are increasingly affecting the operation of the power grid. Ensuring grid and system security
becomes more and more complex and costly.
The R&D project InnoSys 2030 develops and investigates innovative approaches to system operation in
order to achieve a higher utilization of the transmission system while retaining at least the same level of
system security.
The research project starts with a structured analysis and evaluation of innovative measures for increasing
the utilization of the existing power grid that are currently discussed in research and politics as well as by
system operators. Besides electrotechnical and economic criteria also IT and system security are
considered. Furthermore, the development of new concepts, not yet discussed, is part of InnoSys 2030.
The practical suitability of the concepts for power system operation is a critical criterion for selecting those
concepts in this project. After a preselection phase chosen concepts and respective tools are developed.
Afterwards these tools are tested in (real-time) simulations, demonstrators and field tests in a control room
environment. Based on the results the tools are evaluated and prioritized regarding the defined
requirements. Concerning the implementation of the most suitable concepts a Road Map is described.
