Project details

Short description

Cluster 1 develops scenarios for a future energy system, taking into account the corresponding economic framework conditions and societal expectations. These scenarios provide the framework for the work carried out in the other clusters. The primary objective of Cluster 2 is the development, conceptualisation and design of new system structures. Based on these system structures, Cluster 3 develops efficient system operation concepts with a focus on flexibility and security of supply. New technologies are developed in Cluster 4 to implement these operating concepts and grid structures. The research results derived in Clusters 1 to 4 are comprehensively tested for their practical applicability in Cluster 5 using a grid demonstrator.

Scientific Abstract

The Kopernikus project ENSURE takes a holistic approach to researching and providing new energy grid structures for the energy transition. To this end, a comprehensive energy system optimisation is carried out, taking all relevant energy sources into account. The primary objective is to clarify how centralised and decentralised energy supply components need to be configured within the overall system. The second main objective is to implement the developed systemic concepts in practice and test new technologies in a large-scale demonstration project.

This work package is assigned to Cluster 4 and analyses the optimal interaction of power electronic actuators, including their mutual influence and interactions with the transmission grid and other grid users. Using offline simulations and, in the medium term, real-time simulations, the causes of mutual interactions are investigated across different manufacturers, critical operating conditions are identified at an early stage, and potential solutions are developed.
