A comparative discourse-analytical framework of autobiographical narratives can provide insights into a scientific community’s communication formats, actors, networks, hierarchies, and socio-epistemic value systems. This paper examines the self-written curriculum vitae of three geologists who were members of the Geological Survey and the Academy of Sciences in Vienna in the first half of the twentieth century. The aim is to discuss historical self-representations in relation to the authors’ social and disciplinary backgrounds.
